Ignorant question on 80 vs. 90 models

I have been getting tremendous help from the list in finding a "daily
driver" older model on a tight budget. I have mainly focused on 86, 87
5kcstq's. I have likely found something that will fit my needs. However,
before I write the check, I am also finding some 80 models 89 vintage or so
in my budget, but I just don't know anything about those cars.

1) what's the difference between an 80 and a 90?

They were the replacement for the 4000, but when was the new body
introduced? Aren't the 80 and 90 the same body? Why the diff. names if
that's true? See, i'm totally ignorant here and can't find info anywhere
on this.

2) what years are they now cheap as well as reliable?

Obviously this is a trade off vs. the potential of a 5kcstq, but I'm
looking for clean, basic, 5 spd. quattro to do commuting with, the most car
for the least money, and the other Audi is there for the kicks.

	Thanks for any help!
