Speeding, Photo Radar...
I remember seeing an article from Car & Driver about a year or two ago
where an Audi A4 owner was sent a ticket from a photo radar setup in
Oregon. The article explained how the process works, an outside outfit
is brought in to collect and examine the photos and license plate
numbers. They then look it up on the DMV computer and issue you a
ticket. AN OUTSIDE VENDOR !?!?!?!?!?! Yes, and worse yet, any normal
human being would have known the difference, the photo of the vehicle
was a Ford F150 Fill size pickup with a cap!! The photos of both
vehicles were shown in the article, and I personally had NO problem
seeing the difference. One plate was an ELECTED OFFICIAL plate and the
other a custom plate. Photo radar requires someone examining the
pictures taken, and when places like Denver nab 350 people in 8 hours,
either that's a lot of overtime, or once again, we have outside hired
help, most of whom don't know an Audi from a Lexus, and that's a sad
thing. I live in New York State and we don't have photo yet, although
they have toyed with it. I like writing my elected officials all the
time, have there e-mail in my address book, and if you don't want this
kind of revenue generation, write them, ALL of them and complain,
otherwise enjoy the mail and pictures.
