Strange Sound

I notice a low hum resonating from the engine compartment, coming from
the A/C compressor.  This only occurs between approximately 2000-2200
engine RPM.  When the A/C compressor is switched off, no sound.  It's
not very loud, but noticeable when accelerating, as the engine speed
increased to that range, the sound comes and then goes as the engine RPM
increases beyond 2200.  Does anyone else notice this or do I have a
problem on my hands?
