'93 90CS Infrared Keyless Entry

Back with another question.  The keyless entry system on my 90 worked
fine for a while and then quit.  I've checked the transmitter and the
batteries and it's function appear to be fine.  I've also followed the
re-programming procedure in my owner's manual which hasn't worked.  The
system does, however, respond to the re-programming steps when I press
the button because I do hear the "bip" sound from the trunk indicating
that the programming steps are working.  But after repeating the
re-programming procedure a few times, it still doesn't lock or unlock
the doors.  Any advise out there?
