Pull the regulator out - that's the black thing on the back of the
alternator held on by 2 slot head bolts. Replace it - cost: 25-45.00.
Alternately pull it and have the brushes replaced for you by a friend with
a soldering gun (clip the soldered tops first - originals are riveted and
soldered in) - cost: 4.00. The brushes are part of the regulator unit. It
really is an easy job.
