90q heater/ a/C fan speed

Hello again,

Sure I have been contributing more questions then answers in the last 2
weeks.  should I just post the entire 'to do' list and ask for suggestions
:)? It just amazes me that all this stuff is coming from nowhere with this
car. I swear it worked when I got it! Here it is:

The heating/ a/c blower motor will only run in 3d and forth speed. 1st is
intermittent, and 2nd is dead.

Does anyone know how this speed is controlled, and what part is most likely
responsible? I will be doing the heater core soon and would like to take
care of all in-dash problems.
