Darren, if memory serves me correctly, I remember the fuel pump on both
my '83 and '87 CGT's making a similar noise. Usually when the weather
was quite cold. This could be something worth checking. As for the
front end "pop", check your control arm bushings and the ball joint
which connects the control arm to the lower strut. I have replaced
these parts at various locations on three of my four Audi's. Good Luck!
