Selling 5000TQ -- Making Room for S4
First, I'd like to thank the many q-listers who responded with helpful
comments to my two prior inquiries about a 1993 S4 that was advertised
locally. This Sunday I agreed to purchase it, and should take
possession within the next week or two. Special thanks to Igor Kessel
and Brandon Hull for both recommending George Baxter for the
inspection. George gave the most thorough, confidence inspiring
inspection I have ever been present to witness on any car. (Of course
I have yet to be present when any other q-lister has worked on a car,
having just missed the opportunity to join Igor and Osman Saturday.)
So now I am selling my 1987 5kcstq. With 113,000 miles. In the
Philadelphia area. Before advertising it more publicly (probably
Philadelphia Inquirer) I'm offering it first to q-listers. It may
sound corny or insincere, but: I really would prefer to know that the
car is likely to wind up with someone who cares about and appreciates
such cars; and it's also potentially a means of expressing my thanks
to the q-listers as a resource. In the past couple of months since
I've received the digest, I do believe even I've been able to pick up
and assimilate some information, mechanically ignorant though I
generally am.
The car was purchased used by me from a non-Audi dealer 5 years ago,
with about 80k miles. No service records from PO. Pardon my lack of
knowledge, but the outside color is silver, I think (i.e., I don't
have at my fingertips the paint code, but don't think it's some sort
of grey), with a black interior. I don't know what the options on the
car were, so I won't start describing the car's various features,
assuming that power heated seats, etc. were probably standard. If
you're interested, ask.
Blemishes: I would consider the exterior to be in good condition,
certainly not "mint" (an adjective I've learned one uses at one's
peril on the list, at least without verification or having previously
established credibility). The car has been serviced by me at
Holbert's Audi/Porsche/VW. Fuel pump replaced, various other work
done by me in past. Within the last year, new timing belt, master
brake cylinder, heater programmer, air intake boot. Current
concerns: sound when wheel turned to right suggests, I think, left
wheel bearing/CV joint. Power antenna does not retract final foot.
Within last few weeks, coolant warning light occasionally comes on,
but coolant level is not low. Cassette player does not work in radio
(almost certainly original). I have little doubt that a careful
inspection by a q-lister may reveal additional points of concern. If
it's of any comfort, about 6 months ago I brought the car to Holbert's
for the sole purpose of having them thoroughly examine the car and
identify any problems that might need attending to; they found none at
that time. But they indicated that the inspection was roughly
equivalent to what they'd do if a prospective buyer brought in a car
for them to inspect; frankly, I think George Baxter's inspection of my
S4 was much, much better than Holbert's look at the 5ktq.
Feel free to contact me by e-mail at LB6116@pitcairn.com if you have
any interest in the car. Or comments.
