Re: Almost Reckless driving
Off topic, but my current theory, dreamed up while driving to
vermont, is this:
- driver agrees to submit to extensive and expensive driving test,
perhaps with on-track session.
- driver agrees to submit vehicle to extensive inspection and agree
to keep vehicle well maintained
Given those two, driver is given a special color license plate
for his vehicle. Driver is allowed to drive up to 20-25 over
posted limit, in clear and dry conditions, with moderate traffic.
Only the approved driver may do this.
Driver loses privileges forever if:
- caught driving recklessly (weaving, passing on right)
- speeding excessively in heavy traffic or wet conditions
- another driver is speeding in vehicle using special plates
Troopers could pull up behind the speeding vehicle, pull up
on the computer and check the plate and gender of the driver,
and back off if approved.
Obviously this would never happen. It would be easier and cheaper
to chuck out all licenses and registrations, refuse registration
to old clunkers or unsafe cars, and require driver training for
all drivers. A quicker version is called "moving to Europe".
