Re: Winter Driving (tire rec)

Believe me, once you own separate winter tires, you will never go back.
I am not quite sure what you mean by wearing out a set of winter tires
in one season. How many miles do you drive a year? Some winter tires,
like the Blizzak, may only last 15.000 miles, but there are others that
will last 3 times that long. Because you will split your milage between
two sets of tires, snow tires really do not cost you much. In my
opinion, the best route is to buy a good set of winter tires and mount
them on your original wheels, and then buy a set of +1 wheels for summer
tires. If you are not intrested in spending $400 on another set of
wheels, you can get steel wheels for 1/2 that, or just swap tires twice
a year.

I'm not quite sure what the roads are like in New Jersey, but I do know
Vermont roads. For the best snow tire, I recommend the Nokian
Hakkapalita 1. If you want a tire that is not quite as good in the
snow, but less noisy/smoother/better dry handling, the Nokian NRW (H) is
a great choice.
