hi rich...the discussion was that the basic ingredient of "octane booster"
or "flash retarder" was methyl ethyl ketone...this ingredient is a major
component of high quality paint reducer. since i work with paints this was
interesting. i also have an old ford van for parts pickup etc, that has a
tendency to knock when hot. these seemed a safer test bed for my experiment
than my audi. last week i added a few ounces of the thinner to a full tank
of the cheapest gas i could find. i then drove a 200 mile round trip to
toronto on very fast highways (posted speed is 100kph (60mph) actual speed
for all vehicles including police is 120-140kph (70-80mph). it was the best
that the old van had run in a long time, with no knocking at all. ...oh
yes...although it's old it is maintained and safe..not a clapped out wreck.
