re 90q Engine Check Light
Last week I questioned an engine check light reading on my wife's 1988 90q
suggesting the knock sensing was disfunctional and a computer was
lobotomized. I should have taken the readings literally. After testing for
grounding problems and swapping in and out knock sensors, I pulled the
ignition computer. It was full of water. A flush with distilled water and
then ethyl alcohol and drying fixed the problem. Now I have to investigate
a water leak that starts about 1/3 of the way up the r.h. windshield edge.
There doesn't seem to be any obvious way to get under the windshield gasket
from the outside, unlike, for example, that of an '80 Scirocco. Next step
is to pull the inside windshield molding and see if there are clues to an
easy fix.
