It was purchased and installed by the previous (original) owner of our urq.
He had all the work done at the ABT dealer in California in or around
1983. That ABT dealer is long gone, but maybe whoever is the current USA
rep. could still get these large intercoolers.
It is the same width as the stock USA urq intercooler, only twice as tall.
To fit in the same spot, it is slanted back instead of vertical.
I need to fabricate some better ducting to route air throught the lower
bumper and through the intercooler. Never gotten around to installing
thermocouples at the inlet and exit to measure temperature, but now that
the k24 is installed, that should be my next project.
The intercooler is still a single pass unit. That is one advantage I see
besides weight for the urq owners who install MC engines in their cars. If
they keep the MC ancillary systems intact (like a complete swap including
the Mac 14 ECU) AND keep the urq single pass intercooler, they have in
effect built a stock '91 20vt/S4 killer!
Oh, I just thought of something: I'm not sure where the stock oil cooler is
on the urq. Mine has always been in front of the radiator. If the stock
oil cooler unit on the urq is located like the one on the 5kt cars, it will
have to be moved to fit the larger intercooler in there.
HTH.
BTW, when (*if* as it is very new) the clutch goes out on the urq, a lower
geared trans. will be installed. That is the only major performance
upgrade I still want to do. I hope it, however, will be 10 years in the
future since I have had very long clutch life from our cars in the past...
