bose stereo??

my 91 200 tqw has the original audi gamma head
unit which is on it's last leg. i recently saw an
audi bose unit for sale, the owner thinks it came
from an a6. is this a pretty easy swap to make,
mechanically i have 8 thumbs and 2 pinkies. are
these units any good, or would i be better off
with an aftermarket unit (pioneer, kenwood,
et.al.). who manufactured these units for audi,
and what kind of specs do they have. did they
originally have an external amp or was it self
contained.
i was looking into a new blaupunkt, but one stereo
dealer said to steer clear. anyone have any
recommendations..
