There is hope...

The "CARB legal way" is an IA mod (stock turbo).

One can easily uh...cough..."bend" the rules here though. No smog inspector I
have run across here in CA could hope to tell what flavor of KKK turbo is in
your car nor would they bother to check since it is not on their "list of
things to check" anyway. Same goes with stiffer wastegate springs and an
emprom change in your ECU. The one area that an astute inspector may catch
would be a bypass valve and that is iffy.

Once we go to rolling tests on 4 wheel dynos here (will only happen in some
areas, not state-wide, and not anytime real soon AFAIK) you may need to be a
bit more concerned but the turbo aside, an eprom and wastgate spring are easy
things to change back to stock every two years for a day anyway.

Of course you didn't hear this from me, my car is bone stock, and ymmv ;-)
