The main concern is to follow the directions stated on the tag attached to
the coolant-filler and in your owner's manual: only use ethylene glycol
antifreeze that is *"phosphate free"*. If the antifreeze container doesn't
explicitly state that it contains no phosphates, don't use it. Some believe
this requirement is because of the aluminum cooling system in our cars;
others believe it is merely a result of environmental regulations in
Europe. Whatever the reason, it's easy enough to find the right stuff (I
just bought some Havoline antifreeze at Pep Boys, which states "phosphate
and silicate free" in big letters on the front label. Several other brands
were available.

Oil? I won't touch that tender topic. Lots of discussion in the archives.
