Whazzat? Glass breaking? No, never heard of that before. :)

Actually, the only auto glass I've had go bust was on my first love, a 1950
chevy seedan. It did it quietly, at night, with no one around. We've  also
had the glass panel in our front door shatter into a gazillion pieces. Did
it while no one was looking that time, too.

Often, no special abuse is needed. Just happens. But in your case, you were
fortunate to be able to witness the spectacle! Maybe you helped it along by
the hatch closing. It just couldn't take it any more. Ya know, they call
them "tempered", but they're not always even-tempered. :)

I hope your insurance covers it.
