this reminds me...
i just replaced my throttle cable.
anyone with a 150K mile car should do the same.
it can be done with 2 or 3 hand tools in 5-10 minutes, most of that r&r'ing
trim pieces.
my cable was a few strands from failure at the same point described by steve.
doing the roadside mechanic thing is rarely fun, convenient or safe.
