CAT disintegration
Dear Listers,
I finally had the ailing CAT on my car replaced with a stainless steel
unit, which was manufactured from scratch by a small engineering firm in
Nottingham. I knew the CAT was dying as, at times, it made the worst
racket at certain rpms, and a good knock on the CAT from underneath
confimed the death rattle.
Once the guy got the old CAT off, he informed me that most of the
insides were gone, and had presumably been blown back down the exhaust
system over time. That comment has, quite understandably I think,
panicked me as the exhaust is quite new, and I dread that it may have
become partially blocked?
Does anyone have experience of this? Can they confirm my fears, or can I
relax and not brace myself for a new exhaust?
Any comments gratefully appreciated.
Tim.
