No, my JS engine runs with the cap off - the MB will not.

The difference is in where the breathers enter the air inlet system.
On the JS they're connected into the air box inboard of the filter
but _before_ the air is measured by the air mass sensor.  Any change
(e.g., opening the cap) is fully compensated for.  On the MB, they
are connected into the plenum chamber above the air mass sensor
paddle and any extra air entering will _not_ be compensated for - the
mixture goes extremely lean and stops the engine.
