RE: (Tech) 4k scq suspension upgrade
Hello all! I just purchased one of my dream cars...an '86 4000SC quattro.
Congratulations.
The car is in nead of restoration, quite badly. First and foremost, it needs
suspension. I was hoping that I could get a set of Bilstein HD shocks and
struts with a set of Eibach springs. I am looking to stiffen the car up and
lower its stance about an inch and a half.
1 1/2" is quite a bit. What do you want a car that low for. I have ridden in
one that low and it had major bump steer. The H&R's I have lower it about
3/4" and look pretty good. The problem with them is they still give the car
the standard 4kq rear sag. Coil overs are the way to go IMO. They give you
the flexibility to set the car at whatever height you want.
But, from what I have come to
understand, Bilstein does not manufacture shocks and struts for the 4kq.
So, my main question at this point is, what other brands of shocks and struts
are out there for this wonderful car? I know Boge has some out there, but I
had abad experience with them with lowering springs on my Scirocco.
Boge's are not a good shock for a lowered car or one with larger than stock
wheels. Koni makes an excellent shock for the 4kq or Spax also.
