AoA vs VWoA (Passat quattro)

There has been some buzzing in the watercooled.VW newsgroup about the
99 Passat GLX syncro... as in don't hold your breath.

According to Autoweek, the US Passat syncro will be available next
year, using 4motion badging AND the Haldex system for the drivetrain.
(Autoweek has been known to flub up with drivetrain configs.)

So, my question is- has AoA gotten their wish and kept quattro to
itself?

Talking with the Audi salesblokes, they maintain there is NO CROSSOVER
in demographics... The Passat is a nice car, add 30v and quattro and
you have a car that would be right in the face of the 30v A4 and A6.
