A friend of mine has the Buick. If you start out hard without the
traction control enabled, you get smoke and wheel spin and some forward
movement. If you turn on the traction control, you don't get any
wheelspin, but you lose a large portion of your power, so the car is
still slow off the line. It's a no win situation. Freeway passing is
good though in his '98 which he got as a free trade after his '97 ate
two trannies.
    For comparison (and Audi content) I was able to apply full power
(ok, only 100 hp or so) today in the rain in a turn to get out of the
way of a rapidly approaching vehicle. No tirespin or loss of control,
just the acceleration I needed at that moment in my 4kq.
