5000CDTQ inspection
The search for a Quattro continues. The latest candidate - an 88 CD TQ, was
kind enough to flash a bomb-shaped icon in the warning light triangle!
Turning off the engine produced a very solid pedal. I also saw fluid on top
of the transmission under the middle of the rack so I assume something is
leaking.
Question: After a 10 min drive through a residential area with some stop
signs in 50 weather, the aux fan was running . Is that normal?
How does one detect worn rear susp. bushings? They looked a little enlarged
at the center hole.
Also, I didn't get a lot of compression braking in second gear - at least
not as much as in my 120k mile BMW. Is that the lower CR of the turbo motor?
Couldn't see any smoke.
On and off the gas in first gear produced a little drive train clunk clunk -
how much slack should there be?
