S-cars?

Asking for my brother:

"Ok, Audiphiles.  What should I be looking for as a family car, daily
driver, highway cruiser?  Why should I prefer an S4 over a V8, or
maybe the S6 is the way to go?  My requirements are quattro, manual
transmission and big motor (HPwise, not necessarily displacementwise).

Given all that, which of these looks best?  BTW, what do these cars
look like?  When did the integrated hood and grill become standard
equipment?"

I know the answers to many of the questions (although not the last) but was
looking for some other opinions, and possibly links to pictures.

(when he says S4 & S6 he means the old ones)
