My '83's has always glowed faintly.  Check current track #15 into the fuse
box.  Mine was dicey for over a year and finally burned through.  It
affected all sorts of things, including causing the control unit to cut out
when the turn signals, brake lights or reversing lights were on (dropped the
voltage).

My understanding is that the only way of making the faint glow go away is to
upgrade the regulator??
