Re: picked up the UrQ, couple things wrong...
Mike said,
>hey all, i just picked up the UrQ from 2bennett...there are 2 things
wrong which i notice...
1. Boost cuts out above about 4000-5000 RPM...It has the 1.95 bar chip
and wastegate spring, and the stock boost guage. The boost seems to
drop from the 1.8 bar to 1.0-1.1 bar.
Hmm, as I suspect this work was not done gratis, I'm surprised a shop
let the car go with theses gremlins! That aside check the basic
bugaboos, manifold temp sensor, has anyone checked fuel pump cicuit or
that chip install done properly, proper timing, no pressure (vs vacuum)
leaks etc.
>Keep in mind this is an 86 MC engine.
Andrew bennett's theory is that the knock sensor is retarding the timing
because of bad gas,
Not sure as my Urq will do 1 Bar on crap gas, above that good gas is
mandatory
> in 4th,the boost cuts out, at full throttle around 4200and in 5th it
will usually last all the way through to 5000-5200rpm.
So it is boost specific not RPM specific? Measurement in PSI may help
as is is more precise. You mention stock boost gauge? For the UrQ
there was none, if your using the 86 LED one, get a better one sooner
rather than later
>2. The alternator light is glowing faint red. I think this means that
the alternator is on its way out. They left a note in the invoice that
the cooling fins are bent and that they recommend replacing it.
Again surprising for a "reputable" shop to let a car go that could die
on the way home. This could be causing some of your other problems as
proper voltage is key to many UrQ systems. Do you mean the fins on the
pulley or on the body are bent? One is very easy to fix, I'd check the
brushes before going new alt, mine is 17 years old and works fine,
brushes 1 year old. Any good parts place can bench test it for you, or
put a meter on it yourself.
Good luck
Mike
