Retrofitting all-red taillights

A (lucky) friend of mine is the owner of an 1985 5kS. As you know, the
car has got the lock for the trunk in the middle of the rear trunk lid
part. The all-red taillights I've seen is made for cars manufactured
after 1988, when Audi moved the lock to the reflector plate and placed
the 4 rings where the lock used to be. Now to the question: Is it any
way of installing all-red taillights on a pre-88 model without
swapping trunk lid with a post-88 model?
