IMHO, the previous replies leading to positive voltagechecks are wise
but no one has mentioned GROUNDS. I'd sure check voltage drop across the
alt ground (often a wire), the instrument cluster ground, the battery
ground, and the engine/chassis ground before spending any money on
parts. The condition of grounds is often checked after the money has
been spent and the results have been unsatisfactory, and is of equal
importance to the positive portion of the loop. The chassis and
component ground points should be identified in your Bentley.
