Hard cold starts, fuel pump fine

Hi!  I'm brand new to the list, so please forgive if this question has been
asked tons of times.  (I couldn't find it in the archives or through the
search engine).

My very recently purchased 90Q (1988) is still in the shop, because the
mechanic can't figure out what is wrong with it.  The symptoms are:
hard cold starts, ok hot ones, car lacks power, fuel is running rich, fuel
pressure is ok, cold start injector and thermal time switch are apparently
ok as well.  Does anybody have any suggestions that might help my
poor clueless mechanic?  Thanks so much.
