My apologies for not responding earlier, I've been off the List for
about a month now and check the archives only occasionally.

I am assuming that you checked the obvious and the Idle Switch reads 0
ohms at rest (between the Mid and Bottom terminals). Not just "low",
mind you, but 0 or <1 ohm.

OK, according to the 3-vol bible:

1. Put a multimetre in series with the ISV, set to >= 2a scale.
2. Start engine, let idle
	* 800 ± 50 rpm
if no

3. Adjust the idle by turning the screw
4. Disconnect GRN wire from term. 1 of ignition coil junction block.
	* this activates the ISV pre-set value.
5. Observe reading on multimetre
	* 430 ± 20 ma
if no

6. Check idle stablilisation sys (page 25.57)
7. Reconnect GRN wire to terminal 1 of ignition coil junction block.
	* 430 ± 20 ma fluctuating.
	* idle should remain within spec.

BTW, this is precisely the way my car is behaving, according to my
pencil marks on the margins dated Oct'96 and Mar'98.

Do these tests first and let me know the results. Or call me tomorrow
AM.
I will retype the §25.57 for you if there's a _need_.
