Re: Valentine One Upgrade!

Although I try not to keep up with all the hype regarding the many different
Wal-Mart brands of radar detectors any more, having worked in a couple of
electronics stores while in high school and the first few years of college, I
seem to remeber the Ka band developing in this order:

1) Ka Band -- referred to the "photo-radar" which operated on a single
frequency then referred to simply as Ka band. This never operated in GA
AFAIK, so I had to do some serious truth-bending to get customers to walk away
with these pricier models.

2) Wideband Ka -- This was the second phase of the Ka Band development as it
relates to traffic radar. Ka guns were usually referred to as "instant-on" in
the detector owner's manuals and the frequency band had been expanded by the
FCC for traffic radar gun use. Again, AFAIK, not used in Georgia, so some
serious lying to push these models out the door.

3) Super-Wideband Ka -- The last Ka iteration that I know of. According to
detector manufacturers, the FCC once again expanded the Ka band (although this
could just be the detector manufacturers' way of selling new detectors to
unsuspecting customers). Ka was still not used in GA! Yet their sales put
dollars in my pocket.
