"New" '89 200TQ
Found a new car over the weekend---and bought it. 1989 200TQ burgundy 125k
miles very good shape. I was very surprised that I found such a car
locally--only about 4 miles from my house! The guy was asking $3950.00 and
wouldn't budge, so I gave it to him. Still, that's about $1200.00 below NADA
SRP. I was able to wring $3050.00 out of the insurance company and keep my
'87 5KCSTQ, which they totaled but is still driveable.
Had the 200TQ up to 110 mph today with no detectable problems. A couple of
minor (I hope) concerns;
1. The turbo will only give me 1.3 bar max boost(on the display at least)and
definitely does not have the acceleration that the '87 has. The '87 gives
me 1.4 bar. It's an identical engine, so this doesn't seem right.
2. There is a significant oil coating all over the throttle linkage right
next to the intake-to-intercooler hose. A fair amount of oil on the hose
itself, too. Haven't been able to determine where this is coming from. I
suppose if the hose is not tight enough it could explain the oil and the 1.3
bar situation.
3. The left front wheel speed sensor is disconnected but the abs light is
off. If I press the abs switch the light comes on and the system appears to
be functional. I'm wondering if this could be a danger under certain
circumstances.
4. Cold start requires about a 5-6 second crank. Fuel pump check valve?
Comments on any or all of the above will be appreciated. Please email
directly as I am currently unsub*ed.
