Re: Checked out '88 80q today
Can comment on the exhaust and paint. Have the same color (I
think - it's silver anyway and an 88 80q), but the clear coat
is peeling. When I bought mine last Dec. the muffler was on its
way out (rear, from the mid on back). The mid section has a couple
small holes in it, but it does'nt seem to have gotten worse.
I bought one local for about $250.00 (Bossel?). The mid section
was quoted for about $170.00. Have not replaced the mid though.
I paid $3300 for mine with 88k miles on it. With the above problems,
it also needed the fresh air blower motor replaced ($25 pulled
from a 90CS), a resistor ($34), idle/WOT switch ($110 dealer)
and rear brake pads ($80 dealer).
Has a hot start problem, idle fluctuates and idle drops
after about 2-3 minutes after A/C kicks in. All these problems
are under investigation (at night I like awake and think about
them, so they're under investigation).
It's been my daily driver for a year now.... and counting.

Highs:
- -new timing belt and water pump
- -new plugs (tri-electrode), wires and distributor
- -interior in good condition
- -AC works
- -heated seats work
- -all windows and sunroof work
- -all switches work (needs some burnt out bulbs replaced, no big deal)
- -no rust
- -diff locks ok
- -clutch felt OK (caught low, so did not seem worn)
Lows:
- -fuel pump noisy
- -paint on hood in poor condition (car is Zermatt silver metallic), overall
paint condition fair
- -unpainted bumpers
- -cracked fog lamp lens
- -lousy 185 75 14 Pirelli P6 tires (wrong size? and almost no tread left)
- -exhaust system rusty (mid-muffler and rear muffler had outer shells
perforated with rust, but not all the
way through yet)
