Critter warning/advice/BTDT

Audi Content: For those of you with the 2.8L V6, an excellent place you
might want to check for little creature's nests is under the intake
manifold on top of the valley pan. Every so often I have to vacuum a
nest out of there. Even with all the plastic shrouds on this engine the
little buggers still find a way in there. And there is no evidence they
are there until you remove the shrouds!

Does anybody have any suggestions for keeping mice, etc. from building a
nest on/in an engine? I hear mothballs work in a house but might melt
at engine temperatures. Mouse traps around the car work but are a pain
to deal with every night and my wife is allergic to cats so that is out.
