Bingo, you got it. I've been checking the resistance on the sensor it 
have been getting good readings. I also briefly looked at the solder 
joints and they were good. Then it occurred to me that I shouldn't be 
able to get a good resistance reading unless the circuit was open. I 
peeled back the rubber tubbing down to where the wires enter the metal 
connector. From outside they appeared to be perfect, but they were 
totally disinctegrated!!!!  Thanks for the help
