swapping manual or power seat
My daughter has an 86 5000cs with manual seats in front. Several years
ago, I had the seat bottom repaired on the driver seat. Local shop did a
beautiful job but it was expensive - about 200.00. This car was the
commenorative series that looded like a turbo quattro but had the non
turbo motor. It used the gold sport seats with the fake suede seat
bottoms and backs while the turbo quattro used real suede.
The old seat bottom had become tattered and torn but the car had a lot of
life on it so we passed it on to our daughter with the seat repaired so
that it was otherwise presentable. The passenger side seat was showing
werar but is not torn. I recently found a power seat at a local junk
yard which has an excellent mechanic. In trying to swap the manual for
power seat we discovered the tracks are different and power will need to
run to the seat motor. This is a real bummper for the replacement
passenger side seat is in beatiful condition and will only cost me
50.00 plus installation. Has anyone swapped a power for a manual
seat? How did you solve the different tracks and what problems
were encountered. Did you spotweld in used tracks? I am a bit concered
about safety if the seat lets go in an accident. Please relay and
suggestion or your experience on making a seat swap. Georg K
