Re: MAF sensor (oil on sensor)

The MAF sensor came from Brandon's engine for his S2. The previous
owner of the engine didn't use anything but stock. I also do not
have a K&N filter.

The K&N filter was my first suspect in Todd's case, since the oil
seemed very clear. The owner might have switched them. However,
since Brandon's car has started accumulating oil again, I'm not so
sure. I haven't had time to inspect fully my MAF sensor.

Todd Young suggested the crankcase breather hose; I thought this went
into the intake path around/near the bypass valve, WGFV et al. This
would not explain why oil was on the intake side of the MAF and(more
importantly) -NOT- on the side facing the engine+turbo. If oil had
blown back from the turbo or other source, it would have coated the
-engine- side of the MAF sensor!

In the 3B engine, the MAF draws air straight from the filter, via a
small cone in the filterbox. There are no other connections to the
airbox.
