I know first hand experience that the CV joints can be rearranged.  I had mine
out to be replaced over thanksgiving.  When taken to my friends shop, he found
his listing was wrong and he could only order boots and not the parts, so I
had to put them back in.  He took them apart reversed the race and bearings
and then repacked them.  The only new things on them are the boots and the
grease. He told me this was not a permament fix, which I expected( what else
with an audi).  So far no problem, but I will be replacing them at the end of
the month.  God am I not looking forward to taking them off again. I never new
how technical an A4's supension could be.
