type 44 shift linkage bushing installation
greetings ron:
i wanted to thank you again for helping me on saturday.
you're a hero.
i drove the 60+ miles home and decided to stop at a grocery store a mile or
so from my house.
when i tried to shift into reverse in the parking lot, i noticed the
linkage had popped again, this time at the opposite end.
i made it home and found the bushing LAYING ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION,
loose from the linkage.
(btw i lost my clutch slave bleeder screw cap during our repair =8)
i later learned the trick to properly seating those bushings.
there is a rubber membrane covering the top side of the linkage ends.
the bushing must stretch the rubber in order to slip past a ridge and be
seated.
the way we were inserting the bushing (by pressing against a flat surface),
the bushing would never go the last 1/8 inch or so.
by hanging the end off the edge of a work surface, i was able to push them
in fairly easily with a small screwdriver.
i have copied this to the list so that it's in the archives...
