Groaning in steering fixed?

Another lister recently asked me what I had done to eliminate the "groaning"
in my steering column when turning the wheel either direction (got my
question on the subject out of the archives). While this problem had always
been sporadic, it seems that since my PS pump was replaced last month I've
not heard a peep out of the steering column. Is it possible that the
replacement of the PS pump could have solved this problem? Anyone else had
this noise eliminated by replacing the PS pump?
