5KS Noisy Speedo

I have a nagging problem with the speedo in my 87 5ks.  It's noisy when
cold.  The colder it is the farther I have to drive before the noise goes
away.  Soon it will be cold enough that I'll get to listen to it all the
way to work in the morning instead of just half way.

Twice I took the instrument cluster to the only local speedo repair shop
and each time they supposedly fixed it but it never lasted long.  The first
time was at 75k miles and they said they lubed it ($45)  Two years later i
couldn't take it anymore and returned to have them fix it again.  This time
they said they replaced a bushing...another $45.  This didn't last long
either and now I tried to go back to see if they would stand behind their
work.  But they have gone out of business and there is no longer any speedo
repair shop in the area.

What should I try next?
  Can I just lube it myself?  
Should I try to have it repaired again?
