Need help on repairing interittent 1991 200 speedo cluster
Folks:
Has anyone saved detailed instructions on the fix to the 100/200
intermittent speedo cluster problem?
Besides being occasionally "jerky" as if a speedo cable was bent
or needed lubrication, the autocheck computer "blanks out',
I can use the multi function computer, and the left and right
turn signals and the high beam indicator are illuminated, and
the digital clock fades out.
I perused Chris Miller and Scott M.'s web pages, and searched
the Qlist archives, but didn't get alot of details.
I have already remove the cluster by taking off the top cover
on the steering column (two phips screws) and the trim panel
beneath cluster (4 philips screws). Working the cluster out
while disconnecting the leads to it was a total pain.
Now that I have it out, I have a few questions. There are four
holes for bulbs above the oil temp and voltage gauges. Three
of them had leads colored black, yellow and blue. What are they
for?
The cluster of bulbs beneath the "OK" computer have bodies colored
black, pink and blue. What is the significance? Wher do I need to
install
a bulb for the "autocheck" system? Is it the location with the bulb
hole taped over?
And finally, when I put the cluster face down, remove two philips
screws from the back, and swing down the rear panel, I am greeted
by a pcb board which is atached to the swing away panel, and connects
through two connectors to the panel to which the gauges are attached.
Which pcb board has the ground problem, and which side of the connectors
should I reflow the solder with my Weller soldering station?
Any tips would be appreciated!!!
Does anyone have the TSB that they could email or fax me?
