Roof liner + Tem gauge + mechanic in Seattle - 1989 Audi 100
First, I'm back on the list after a long (healthy) absence. In the meantime
I've also relocated from Dallas to Bellevue/Kirkland in the beautiful state
of Washington. I also owe Hugh Powell an apology since I intended to buy his
alloy rims back in late summer but never got around to it. My life went
crazy around that same time and I didn't get anything done as planned. I
hope I didn't create to much hassle for you, Huw.
A few questions:
* Anyone have a good tip for a local and trusty mechanic here in
Seattle (preferably east side)?
* My roof liner has taken a beating in the Texas sun and the foam
between the cloth and the actual "structure" has started to disintegrate,
resulting in the liner (cloth) now sagging in several places. Can the entire
"structure" be taken out without removal of front/rear window? I know it is
messy to get the old foam cleared out in order to glue the cloth back in
place. Advice are welcome.
* My idle is a bit high when the engine has heated up. Have checked
the ISV and for vacuum leaks. Everything's fine so far. Idle is very low
when car is started from cold (first 1-2 minutes), but once heated up it
runs high. Anyone with a similar problem.
*
* Lastly. you guys out there with 1989-1991 100/200. How does your
temp gauge act? I just had the car checked twice, once in Dallas before
leaving and now last week in Bellevue. Both claim car is running OK but to
me it seems like it is running cold. Reason; When stopping temp gauge rises
to mid mark and fan starts running. As soon as out on the road, temp gauge
falls to relatively low mark. Car also takes time to heat up. I think the
thermostat is stuck but two garages claim otherwise and say it is normal for
the temp gauge to "cycle". I never had that happen to any "modern" car. My
Nissan hits the mark and stays put. Same with all rental cars I drive all
the time.
