PLEASE help! 80q shifter mod

Obin,
Sounds like most of your problems are clutch related...However... Regarding
the shifting "delay": The linkage on those cars was suspect to begin
with...designed to keep the driver as insulated from the gearbox feel as
possible. There is a certain amount of built in play both fore and aft as
well as side to side. It always felt crappy to me so I modified mine.

You can replace the stock joint with a more positive acting joint
(fabrication required). I however, modified mine. You need to take the
joint "box" apart by cutting the pivot dowel. Add sleeves to the cross
section part (similar to the cup bearings that slide over u-joints) This
limits the amount of movement, yet allows the u-joint action to remain. I
also added some hard rubber inside the box to further limit the wasted
motion. You need to use the correct diameter bolt to put it back together
again. Ahhh....much better! (Won't cure a clutch pedal on the floor
though.)
