Re: Alternator(91 200 quattro)



Mark,
This may seem like a stupid answer, but part way through the 91 model year the
100 and 200 models got a belt size change that after market belt sources don't
seem to know about.  There is a 1/2 mm (I think) increase in the pulley width.
If you have the new pulley size and the old belt size it will seem to work but
the belt wears out fast, and, think about it, the belt bottoms out in the pulley
and slips-with no noise-after it gets some wear to it.  Check the easy stuff
before the hard stuff.  This could be your solution.  I tried three different
parts shops before calling a dealer who told me about the mid-year change.
