The first _real_ revision of the 1980 I5 turbo engine. Audi basically
married the hydraulic lifter head first shipped in late 1985 to a
block bored out from 2144cc to 2226cc. Compression ratios were
increased, boost levels lowered, and various other things done to
make the engine more amenable to electronic control via the MAC11
single knock sensor controller.
Audi quietly revised the package by adding a second knock sensor a
little later on, going to the MAC14 controller. You'll see people
here referring to MC-1 and MC-2 occasionally.
A very slightly modified version of the MC-1 was shipped in Europe as
the 1B in the 200TQ and the MB in the ur-quattro. The main difference
is a lack of emission control equipment - different CIS and ECU.
