The most important feature of RDS is the ability to interrupt the
radio/tape/cd program with a traffic bulletin, as you are
doing 160mph on the autobahn, coming up to a 50 car pileup
ahead...

We do have RDS in the US but it is not widely used.  Denon is
the company I usually see with this feature.
