1992 100CSQ Auto Transmission etc.
Please note that the 92 100 quattro has a different automatic transmission
than the non-quattro. It does not have a manual sport switch, but
automatically sets the shift points to the driving style. I think that there
are at least 5 shift patterns (algorithms). I have been told that the quattro
transmission has typically been trouble free. I don't know about 93 and on.
My 92 100CSQ suffered most of its calamities about 38K miles. It now has 77k.
At 38k it had head gaskets, valley gasket and external oil pump leaks
repaired, mostly by AoA. They also replaced the timing belt (oil covered) and
related parts and I paid for the water pump. A few months later a leak
developed in the radiator and transmission fluid appeared in the coolant. AoA
paid for half of this repair, but at dealer prices I probably could have had
it done elsewhere at the same out of pocket cost.
The car now has two more years on it with just the replacement of the
serpentine belt a year ago and now MIke Rooney will replace the center vent
actuator motor tomorrow. So, after the 38k 92 model year stuff, not too bad.
