RE: antenna problem

Different cars have different antenna configurations, so my first advice to
you is to find out how the system on your car is set up. If you had a '91
200q sedan I would expect that you would have 2 antennas one each in the
front and rear windshield ... as I have on my '91 v8q. Your Avant is more
likely to be like my 5kCSQA, with a Fuba external antenna mounted on the
roof right in front of the rear hatch. This antenna is better than the
antennas in the windshield, so you are not likely to have more than one
antenna connected to the deck. The Fuba is amplified though ... I believe
that the amp is mounted under the wide trim along the edge of the roofline
at the hatch. It seems to me that I've heard reports that this amp can fail
... perhaps this is your problem (NBTNDT for me). One other thing that I
might suspect is that when you installed the new deck you did not connect
power to the antenna amp. Many people think that since the car doesn't have
a _motorized_ antenna that there is no need to hook up the antenna control
output from the new deck to anything ... and the Fuba doesn't work too well
when the amp is shut off.
